STREET EATS – A NEW COVID-19 INITIATIVE
Street Eats is an initiative being run by Streetlight in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The free virtual cooking program helps young people in Playford optimize their health, grow their skills and combat food insecurity. In partnering with local Playford businesses and an Accredited Practicing Dietitian, Street Eats aims to feed into the lives of Streetlight’s youth through their physical and mental health, financial stress and social wellbeing.
Over a free 6 week program, all participants will receive a box of ingredients delivered to their door each week . Each participant will then join a virtual group cooking tutorial to cook their meal. All participants must be between the ages of 12 and 21 and a participant of Streetlight on Thursday nights.
This is a FREE Streetlight Community initiative sponsored by local businesses at the Elizabeth shopping centre
COOKING ON ZOOM
Together with one of our volunteers, you will be cooking online in a group zoom call.
PARTNERED WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES
We have partnered with several local businesses to provide you with all the ingredients and equipment you will need to make the meal.
HOW IT WORKS
Streetlight volunteer boxes up the donated goods from local businesses and delivers it to your front door.
Youth receives box of food, recipe card & equipment (after school hours) and refrigerate the necessary items.
Youth & volunteers cook together following along with Naomi’s cooking tutorial.
Food is eaten and enjoyed, and tummies are filled with delicious, nutritious food.

Hi, I’m Ben.
A lot of young people we connect with on Thursday nights come with an empty stomach, some having completed a day of school with no food. That’s why we decided to start a conversation with some local stakeholders and start Street Eats, an initiative that doesn’t just fill empty stomachs, but trains, equips and nourishes our young people into their future. And, we’re also always keen to journey with young people, so we’re providing a space where our volunteers and youth can cook together though our online group cooking tutorial.’

Hi, I’m Naomi!
I’m excited to be joining the Streetlight team to share my love for food as we cook and eat tasty and nutritious meals together.
As a dietitian, I love to see people feeling confident about food because it is such a key player in our everyday thriving.
I’m keen to share and learn with you as we work on caring for our bodies and each other in this time.

Streetlight is not a paid promoter nor affiliated with Woolworths or any local business on a promotional level. We simply have a heart to connect businesses, communities and churches together to help support young people in their local communiciates.
